About Files
File and storage questions almost always come down to one confusion: there are two competing definitions of a gigabyte. Drive manufacturers and internet providers count in decimal units, where a gigabyte is 1,000 megabytes. Operating systems traditionally count in binary units, where it is 1,024. That single difference is why a drive sold as 1 TB appears as roughly 931 GB the moment you plug it in — nothing is missing, the two sides are simply counting differently.
The tools here handle that conversion in both systems, and process files locally in your browser where a file is involved at all. This category is still small and growing; file merging and splitting are the next additions.
